Greetings all! Starting this week, we will have a Weekly Weird News feature

First up- Disney and Pixar’s WALL*E which premiered in theaters last Friday seemingly offers interesting commentary on waste accumulation. After garbage has amassed over the planet, humans take to the stars while the lonely robot continues to pack trash into his compressor compartment and spit it out for stacking. A floating trash mass named the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” twice the size of Texas was discovered several years ago in the Pacific Ocean, accumulating garbage due to ocean currents.600 WALL*E watches were given, however, for every movie print. Is it just me, or does this seem incredibly wasteful. I’m guessing a good deal of these watches are going to end up in the garbage within several weeks.

On a different note, posters on imdb.com mentioned a subliminal jab at George W. Bush, noticing that a character in the film urges humans living in orbit to “stay the course” rather than return to Earth, which is by then purported “unlivable.” The phrase brings to mind Bush’s rhetoric and repeated expression that we must “stay the course in Iraq. Among more interesting responses were that WALL*E’s big doe eyes are just a ploy for sympathy.

From June 26-Sept. 21, 2008 the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York will have exhibits of Buckminster Fuller’s work in an exhibit called, “Buckminster Fuller: Starting with the Universe.” It’d be kind to pay a visit as Mr. Fuller’s birthday is coming up on the 12th of July and the anniversary of his death on the 1st! Here’s an article by the NY Times recently about Bucky: “The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller”

This 300 ft. crop circle was found on June 1st, in close proximity to Barbury Castle. The design is labelled “ratchet” and interestingly enough, the angles of the radial jumps are the first ten digits of the mathematical constant Pi. Further, the number 666 is evident in the formation and some experts find a solar system map within the ratchet, which they say directs to August 9, 2014. For more information see here and here

Germany may soon be the host of a suicide machine for people wishing to off themselves. Dr. Roger Kusch, previously a German conservative politician, is the advocate of the machine and this ultimate taboo. The “Perfusor” machine uses potassium chloride and says Dr. Kusch it is “simply an option for fatally ill people.” Legal experts say it is fine to lend the machine to those seeking to end their lives, but it becomes an issue if one has another push the button for them.
