Aleister Crowley - The Beast Within

I am in Edinburgh and it's fringe time. For the most part I'm not interested but I remembered the Disinfo podcast talking to a guy who was putting on a show about Crowley so I figured I'd go see it. Better than watching some knobhead on a unicycle. It was a small venue and a small audience but this made it an intimate experience when Aleister (John Burns) appeared. The play runs through some of the significant events in Crowley's life as he reminisces back stage before putting on one of his "magic" shows. Burns does bear a good likeness to the Great Beast and with a touch of make up he does a pretty convincing turn. The script is solid, managing to go from eerie to comic in an unforced manner and the direction is minimal with no costume changes and no set changes (this is a one man show). The only weak point about the show was the acting, which although entirely competent, lacked conviction although to be fair he has been performing this for two weeks without a break so he's probably a bit tired. The only other problem I had was the fact that he depicted Crowley as dying from a self inflicted stab wound, which is not how Crowley actually departed. Whether this was dramatic license or oversight I don't know but it detracted some credibility from an otherwise enjoyable experience.

Aleister Crowley - The Beast Within runs at Venue 54 till the end of the festival (excluding 22nd and 23rd August)

I just finished reading this. Very difficult but very cool. I found the author particularly disagreeable as he came across like a bourgeois racist but it's impossible not to be impressed by Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters. I wonder if we can get one of them on the show ? That would be an awesome interview.

grindthieves.com varies from industrial techno to breakcore/jungle and oldschool acid

and

http://www.fun-in-the-murky.com/mt/ is some of the best in techno/acid/electro with slight hardedge/dark undertones

i should point that these are complete mixes most of the time and not .rar files or anything with tracks you can skip thru, to some thats a turn off.

There has not been a new episode for almost 2 months. I'm in serious withdrawl, and do believe I may start crying if one isn't up soon. Any reason why it's taking so long (I mean beyond the typical/understandable lack of enough hours in a day and such)? Anything I/listeners can do to help get things moving again? If so, PLEASE let me/us know, this is one of the few radio/podcasts/forms of electronic entertainment I indulge in, with Out There long gone, and Disinfo only updated a couple times a month I'm losing it.

Thanks for making my favourite podcast ever. period.
