Copied verbatim from Technocult:

On Monday, Danny Chaoflux and Nova had their home invaded by a man on the run from the cops. Nova escaped with his son but Danny and the other housemates were taken hostage and had to fight their way free. Now their home is in shambles thanks to the attacker’s gun fire and the police’s tear gas canisters.

You might know Danny as the co-founder of EsoZone, mastermind ofPortland Occulture and a Technoccult guest blogger. You might know Nova for his comments at Technoccult, or for his own blog Third Mind. If you can, please help the mutant community with a donation for cleaning and repairs to their house.

Here’s The Oregonian’s write-up:

A neck hold wasn’t working. Not knowing what else to do, Rafatpanah bit the man’s ear.

“Let go of the gun, let go of the gun!” he yelled through clamped teeth.

“Let go of my ear!” the gunman responded.

The two tore apart, and Rafatpanah spat out a bean-sized piece of ear.

“I tasted the blood of my enemy in my mouth,” he said. “And so at that point you realize the stakes have gone so much higher because blood is being drawn — my blood, his blood.”

Rafatpanah lunged toward the gun and wrestled it away.

He bolted out the front door into a sea of police, his arms reaching skyward with the gun, their guns pointed at him. Unsure of whether he was the suspect, officers tackled and handcuffed him.

After scuffling with the gunman for a few moments, the other two housemates also ran out. Mooney grabbed his own gun and ammo on the way so the man couldn’t use them.

Let’s see if we can get some of that Internet power working here folks, and get these cool guys sorted for some cash.

I enjoy reading about Aleister Crowley‘s exploits as much as the next guy. He climbed mountains, did a boat-load of drugs, penetrated his way through more people than your average Victorian lothario, and claimed to eat people.

What rarely gets a nod, however, is his massive impact on modern occultism. Uncle Al introduced more esoteric concepts – that many use on a daily basis – than any other living occultist in the Western hemisphere, and is partially responsible for bringing Buddhism into the popular lexicon.

I can live with this though, The man courted scandal, so it’s his own fault in many ways.

What I can’t live with are abusive tracky-bottom-wearing oddballs who do abhorrent acts in his name, muddying his already delicate reputation, and making it more stigmatising for us poor wand-wavers. From the Daiy Fail:

The leader of a Satanic sex cult is facing a lengthy jail sentence after being found guilty of multiple counts of rape and child abuse.

Colin Batley, 48, exercised absolute control over his sect in a seaside cul-de-sac – abusing and exploiting helpless children as ‘sex toys’ for more than a decade.

He was found guilty yesterday of 35 sex offences against children and young adults. Yet social services were alerted to Batley’s child abuse in 2002 – and took no action.

One helpless girl was ‘initiated’ when she was just 11 and threatened with death by ‘cult assassins’ if she did not comply. At least two of his young victims gave birth as a result of the ‘systematic and prolonged abuse’.

Yesterday at Swansea Crown Court, Marling, 42, and Elaine Batley, 47, were found guilty of five counts including sexual activity and indecency towards children.

He and his wife had been dabbling with the occult ever since they were married 30 years ago and were obsessed with Aleister Crowley, the most notorious Satanist of the 20th century, the self-styled ‘Great Beast’.

One of Crowley’s publications, the Book of the Law, includes the passage: ‘Let all chaste women be despised. Sex with anyone is not just permissible but to be encouraged.’ And this: ‘Some of the most passionate and permanent attachments have begun with rape. Rome was founded thereon.’

Apart from anything else, the Book of the Law provided justification for the couple’s own ‘open marriage’.

I dunno, you open the gates of hell in the middle of a desert, threaten William Butler Yeates a few times, and all of a sudden a bunch of ugly middle aged woman, and a gun-weilding Cat Weazel turn all bat-shit crazy and start abusing children.

This is 2011 right?

Sleepy City is a site dedicated to the exploration of all things Urban, and sometimes decayed. It really is amazing what these guys find sometimes. Amongst my favourites are their recent exploration of the iconic Battersea Power Station (below), and the Texan NASA rocket base (above).

Sleepycity is a log, a record, a collection of my adventures and travels. I can’t guarantee you’ll find them interesting but they were always fun in the making. If you find the photos or the text unsatisfactory, poorly produced, out of focus, juvenile or offends your sensibilities or your idea of what’s proper you’re welcome to leave, harden the fuck up and produce your own site.

Some of the pictures are really amazing, and the journals are great fun, have fun exploring the Sleepy City.

Let me paint a picture for you. It’s your day off from work, you’re relaxing at home. All of a sudden, you hear a knock at your door.

On your doorstep is a ‘roofin’ salesman, a pizza delivery guy, an angry neighbour, and a law enforcement agent – all after just a little bit of your time. You explain to them, that you just had your roof done last week, you didn’t order any pizza, you don’t have your neighbours welfare cheque, and no, it wasn’t you singing over the superstore paging system all day.

Confused and angry you slam the door shut, then you notice something else. Your answer-phone is beeping and it has reached it’s maximum amount of messages. You nervously press the button, only to hear 99 people saying “Cactus” to you over and over and over again, and wait…who disconnected your telephone line?

Sound Familiar? Well take that pistol out of your mouth sir, you’re not losing your mind. It’s actually highly likely that you’ve just been served by the Phone Losers of America.

That’s right folks, Brad Carter – mighty overlord of the PLA – has released a book of choice moments from the PLA’s long and illustrious existence.

Follow Brad on from his humble routes as a homeless phone-phreaker, to the dizzying heights of credit-card fraud, and remotely taking over Walmart’s paging system. Recoil in horror as they encounter legendary ‘Super-Hacker’ Curtis Lee Jones, and his infamous ‘central computer’ that is ’999 straight out of hell’. Fondly remember the glory days of Red-boxing, when a few beeps guaranteed endless phone conversations.

Whichever way your moral compass points, you’ll find something that will make you chuckle – or just plain gasp – in this excellently narrated journey through the world of the PLA.
