The marketing reasons for turning a historical landmark whose history is so sordid into a disneyesque attraction make perfect sense to me. However the average visitor to an attraction in this country, presented with an empty cave would reach a Gumby-like level of anger in a very short time. "What ? It's an empty cave ? I didn't pay £X to see an empty cave. I want bins in novelty shapes, piped music, buttons to press and overpriced souvenirs and ice creams." Anyway, its all about context. If you were locked in a cave with mannequins at night you wouldn't be so dismissive... It is a great shame that people can’t be left to their own devices to enjoy sites like this.
