Sorry about random quality on this one, so many clips to edit!
However, I think it’s one of our best episodes yet. Really enjoyed talking about my hero!
Great episode and truly great editing. You must’ve spent ages on putting all this together.
I think
A good episode aside from Richard Metzger’s contribution. His argument that there’s no counterculture, while it may be true, rests on ludicrous parameters and assumptions. It appears that the sole question for something being coded as countercultural is the status of the media outlet the thing is carried on. Anonymous is not counterculture because you hear about them on CNN (for me though, Anonymous is counterculture though because I don’t watch CNN – and I heard about them on Off the Hook, the WBAI hacker show)
Guh, I wonder where Disinfo is positioned on this scale. I assume that the Green Day book and Da Vinci code companions are counterculture while Abbie Hoffman’s Woodstock Nation and Saul Alinski’s Rules for Radicals are mainstream for coming out of large publishing houses. He used an opportunity to speak out on an independent podcast to say how there’s no alternative media anymore. If there’s no counterculture anymore I would suggest that this state of affairs is, at least in part, due to the mediocrity of those who speak on the matter.
Anyways, otherwise a good show, Robert Anton Wilson, Ivan Stang, and the other guests who I haven’t heard of before are cool.
Oh, good show making this on your 23rd podcast!
haha yeah.
I was thinking of doing the latest show on our 93rd episode, but that seems a little distant
Ken, you and Joe both mention difficulty making it through Illuminatus! … I’d like to recommend the audiobook trilogy from Deepleaf, it’s a brilliantly voiced and thoroughly enjoyable companion to the book. After reading the trilogy twice through, I still got more out of the audiobook, and as a longtime RAW fan, I can’t endorse it highly enough, especially for anyone who had trouble with the books.
